Who is responsible
The Circle is run by one person, based in the Paphos district of Cyprus, who is the data controller for everything described here. Contact details are on the about page.
If you fill in the form
The introduction form collects your name, your company, your role, your email address, a description of what the company does, and optionally how you heard about this. That is all of it. There is no tracking pixel, no analytics script, no advertising network and no cookie, on that page or any other on this site.
- Why: to decide whether to invite you, and to reply.
- Lawful basis: your consent, given by choosing to send it.
- Who sees it: one person. It is not shared with sponsors, venues, agents or anyone else, and it is never sold.
- How long: kept while there is a live reason to, and deleted on request at any time. Say the word and it goes.
The company research behind the landscape pages
This is the part most privacy notices would leave out, so it is stated directly.
To work out who operates a business in this area, a dataset was compiled from the Cyprus company register, which the Registrar publishes as open data. It covers 267 registered entities and the people recorded as their officers. For some of those people, publicly visible professional profile information was matched to the registry record to confirm who they are and what they do.
- Why: to identify the small number of company owners and executives who might be invited to a dinner, and to produce the aggregate figures on the landscape pages.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interest in identifying potential participants for a small private business circle, balanced against the fact that the underlying source is a public register, the data concerns people in their professional capacity rather than their private lives, and nothing identifying is published.
- What is published: only aggregate counts. No company names, no personal names, and no diagram detailed enough to identify anyone by inspection. The list itself is not published and will not be.
- What it is not used for: unsolicited bulk email. It is not a mailing list and will not become one.
- How long: kept while the Circle is being built, and reviewed rather than accumulated indefinitely.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, object to it being held on legitimate interest grounds, or ask for a copy. For the research dataset, an objection is honoured by removing your records: there is no balancing argument worth having with someone who has asked to be left out.
Email the address on the about page. One person reads it and it will not take weeks. If you are unhappy with the response you can complain to the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection in Cyprus.
Technical bits
- The site sets no cookies and runs no client-side JavaScript.
- The web server keeps ordinary access logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. These are not linked to form submissions and are not used to build any profile.
- Form submissions are stored on a private server, not a third-party form service.
